Slim your Waste in 2024

By: West Central Iowa Solid Waste Date: January 8, 2024

It’s not unusual for your waste to expand over the holidays…rolling over your waste bin…it’s a tight squeeze fitting it all in the garbage.

At Carroll County Solid Waste, we can help you slim your waste…and bulk up the recycle bin. All puns aside, if you don’t know where to start, stop by the recycle center for a free bin to get you started. Here are a few tips to help you become a recycling pro!

  • Reuse, don’t dispose. Reduce single-use plastic and opt for alternatives like reusable bags, bottles, and containers.
  • Conserve energy. Turn off lights, unplug devices, and switch to energy-efficient appliances. Learn more about how to recycle old appliances here.
  • Minimize waste. Embrace minimalism, be mindful of your purchases, repurpose items, recycle diligently, compost, and aim for zero waste wherever possible.
  • Learn what to recycle. Take a moment to understand what goes where in your recycling bin. Accepted items include glass, aluminum or steel cans, plastic (#1, 2, & 5), paper, and cardboard. Items not accepted include plastic without a recycle symbol and single-use grocery bags. Find a full list of items here.
  • De-clutter your home. Organize, store things that aren’t needed every day, donate or sell items you don’t need anymore, and recycle what’s left.
