We are entering the hot and dry season in the landfill, where conditions are perfect for a fire. Landfill fires burn and smolder for weeks…and are very tricky to manage…while sending dangerous chemicals into the air…potentially entering our residential communities.
Firefighters and Landfill Operators work together to smother and bury the fire. It’s risky business operating heavy equipment on and in a fire. They are literally in the heart of the flames.
Please help keep hazardous and flammable materials out of the landfill. This includes all batteries – with the exception of alkaline. Batteries are made with materials that burn many times hotter than traditional fires and are difficult to contain.
We appreciate your help in eliminating these materials from the waste stream. Bring them to us! We will put them in the right place – Household Hazardous Waste!
